As the summer draws near we bid farewell to the football campaigns for our three sponsored teams at Hamilton Academical, East Fife FC and BSC Glasgow. This season has seen some great highs and some difficult times, but each of our teams has performed admirably throughout their respective football campaigns.
Hamilton Accies started the season with a real sense of optimism, their passion often rewarded with solid wins as the team rose as high as 3rd in the Scottish Premiership standings. It's fair to say that Alex Neil's boys surprised most people in the Scottish top flight with their dogged determination, one of the many qualities the club boasts across all of their junior and senior levels. In January, player-manager Neil left the club to take charge at Norwich City, a demonstration of the club's ability to produce not only top quality playing talent, but also to nurture and develop outstanding coaching staff.
Martin Canning stepped forward as the new boss at Accies, enduring a frustrating run as the players and staff adjusted to life under new management. Their unfortunate poor form eased off during April, with Accies putting in better performances and securing points from a combination of wins and draws. At the close of the season it can only be said that this year's Scottish Premiership campaign has been a great success - despite results going against the team in the middle of the season, the club finishing in 7th place in the most prestigious league in Scotland is an outstanding achievement.
East Fife's Scottish Professional Football League 2 campaign was by all accounts a battle of tight margins, with 3rd place and 9th place only separated at the close by 10 points. Every game was vital for the team as they fought to secure points against a number of strong opponents, succeeding and ultimately finishing 4th in the division ahead of a lot of very decent sides. During the season the team powered away on a run of eight games unbeaten between the 10th of January and the start of March. Next season the club will be looking to solidify their league position on the back of this successful campaign, and will be confident of their ability to reach the top of the table.
BSC Glasgow have had a truly historic season, one which anyone involved with the club is unlikely to ever forget. On Saturday 23rd May the team lifted the South Challenge Cup after a series of stunning displays in the competition. A 6-0 victory against Lochar Thistle and a 5-0 victory in the Semi-final against Edinburgh City along the way put BSC in the best position to take the cup when they met Civil Service Strollers in the final. After a sensational 30-yard strike from Gerry O'Connell and a close range finish from substitute Ciaran Johnston, the champagne bottles were popped and the stadium bounced - BSC Glasgow had won the South Challenge Cup. Iain King, manager of the victorious BSC, and his backroom staff at the club, will no doubt be delighted at bringing home silverware in 2015.
With silverware in the trophy cabinet for BSC Glasgow, a fourth place for East Fife and a solid season in the Premiership for Accies, no one can say that our teams have been anything less than outstanding.
We look forward to next season's league and cup campaigns with great excitement, because we know that our three teams will build upon their recent successes and provide us with some great entertainment.
